They have plenty of power, are light, and I bet would do well if they had more clearance. But I wouldn't take it on the beach because of the ground clearance. I have a 2010 and love it as our family car. They are reliable and fantastic vehicles. Subaru make the best 4 wheel drive system this side of a H1 Hummer. VDC also incorporates an all-wheel, all-speed traction control system which senses a loss of traction and applies braking force to the slipping wheel or wheels as necessary to maintain vehicle motion. If VDC detects a difference between the driver's intended path and the one the vehicle is actually taking, VDC applies braking power and/or reduces engine torque to help correct vehicle path.

Standard VDC electronic stability control utilizes sensors which constantly monitor wheel speeds, steering angle, brake pressure, vehicle yaw rate and lateral g-forces. Supposedly all it takes is a push of a button to disable it. If I just go to the 4WD mode and don't lock, it is basically in an AWD mode and VSC is still active.Although Subaru lists VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) and TCS (Traction Control System) as though they are seperate the further you read they explain that TCS is just a part of the VDC system so you are correct, they basically are the same thing. It is turned off when I put the transmission into true 4WD mode where all 4 wheels are locked together.

TRAC used in name on some.īottom line you need to know what it's called on any vehicle you are considering and know how to turn it off.įor example on my 4Runner there is no switch to turn off just the VSC. Called VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) on daughter's Pilot.

It's basically the anti skid / traction function.Ĭalled VSC (Vehicle Stability Control ) on my 4Runner. It's called by various names on vehicles. I think we are basically talking about the same thing.
